Lincoln Moorlands Railway F.C.

Lincoln Moorlands Football Club was founded in May 1989 and began their football in the Websters Yorkshire Bitter
Central Midlands League, Premier Division.

The clubs first season was a very successful one, under manager Stan Dye, winning the Lincolnshire County Senior B Cup
and finishing an excellent 4th position in the Premier Division.  Unfortunately Stan did not wish to Continue the management of the club and a former Lincoln City player, Trevor Thompson took over before the commencement of the 1990/91 season. Trevors first job was to bring in the very well known Barry Ramm as his Assistant and they began a rebuilding job in readiness for the new C.M.L. season.
That season saw Moorlands finish in 6th position and very nearly retained their Lincolnshire Senior Cup crown losing
to eventual winners Harrowby United in a close Semi Final.

The 1991/92 season saw the C.M.L. split into North and South sections. Moorlands playing in the Northern League finished 7th (after a poor start) but once again figured in both cup competitions reaching the Quarter Finals.It was during the close season of 1992 that the Central Midlands League took the decision to only allow clubs with a minimum ground grading marks into their League. Moorlands with £1500 of financial backing to complete the required work had written to the league with plans etc. but found themselves
thrown out of their league just like that. It left the club in a difficult position as all Leagues were now nearly all full but thanks to the Lincoln & District Football League, Moorlands found themselves a home.

The 1992/93 season was an enjoyable one. Moorlands finished in a joint top position along with AFC Friendship and Limestone Rangers and went on to win the Amateur Cup against Hykeham Town on the ground of Lincoln City.

The 1993/94 season saw the club apply for, and gain acceptance to the Lincolnshire League. The following season saw a Reserve side formed and became Champions of the Lincoln & District Saturday League Division One.

1995/96 saw the club win another major honour, this time the Lincolnshire League Challenge Cup. A 2:0 win over Appleby Frodingham saw Manager Stuart Gordon complete a county double, as Stuart won a County Sunday Cup in recent times.

1996/97 Moorlands began their fourth Lincolnshire League season with Stuart and Dave Wilkinson in charge of team affairs and during the campaign secured the services of former Lincoln United Reserves manager Graham Clarke. The club compiled their record points total and goals in a season and also won the County Senior B Cup by outplaying Limestone Rangers in a 4:0 final win at Sincil Bank.

1997/98 Graham Clarke took over team affairs at the beginning of the season but was replaced in October by former Lincoln United player & manager Garry Goddard. Garry took Moorlands to a top five league spot and retained the County Senior B Cup following an exciting 2:1 win over Sleaford Town.

1998/99 Moorlands were accepted into the Central Midlands League Premier Division.With Garry now assisted by well known player Stuart Park. This season saw Moorlands win the Premier Division and created C.M.L history by going through an entire league season undefeated. Moorlands also came close to retaining the County Senior B Cup but this time lost 2:0 to Barton Town Old Boys.

1999/2000 This season saw Moorlands move up into the Supreme Division of the C.M.L. and at the first time of asking won the league by one point from Shirebrook Town who had led for the majority of the season and looked like certain winners. Also in that season Moorlands created more history by reaching their 4th successive County Cup Final. In that Senior A Cup Final when they lost to highly rated Brigg Town 2:0.

The 2000/01 season saw Moorlands finished 2nd behind Shirebrook who won the title on goal difference. The club did however manage to gain promotion to the Northern Counties East League for the first time in the clubs short history.
Moorlands also reached the final of the Senior A Cup and beat Louth United 5:4 on penalties. Also we needed to have a penalty shoot out in every round in order to win the title.

The 2001/2002 season saw Moorlands finish a creditable 4th position in their first season of Northern Counties East Football. Manager Garry Goddard departed for Lincoln United and took several players with him. With John Priestly taking over Moorlands retained the Senior, A Cup Final with a 1:0 win over Holbeach United at Sincil Bank, this was also a record 6th cup Final appearance in succession.
The Youth team won the Intermediate League Premier Division and also reached a county cup final.

2002/03 saw more success for the Club consolidating their position in the Northern Counties although silverware eluded the Club

2003/04 then saw an excellent sixth place finish but a superb FA Vase run through to the 3rd round was the highlight of the season eventually going out to Billingham Town away. The Club also were awarded the FA Cup Club of the Round award after beating Arnold Town

2004/05 season where John Priestley led a good side to the highest ever position in the league finishing fourth and lifting the Wilkinson Sword Trophy. Sean Cann’s 29 league and Cup goals at the age of 18 were a tribute to Johns Youth development policy.

In the 2006-07 season, Lincoln Moorlands finished in 5th place of the league table, amassing 56 points from their 32 matches. This fell way behind 1st position however, some 26 points back of eventual league winners Parkgate. After merging with Lincoln League side Lincoln Railway F.C., the newly named Lincoln Moorlands Railway were offered the chance to be promoted to the Northern Counties East League Premier Division for the forthcoming 2007-08 season, which they duly accepted. Despite only finishing in 5th place, the promotion came about due to Sutton Town's resignation from the league due to severe financial problems.The following season, 2007-08, saw the club also benefit from another club's misfortune. They finished in 19th place and would have suffered relegation straight back to Division One; however they were saved when South Normanton Athletic folded. The club also struggled for most of the 2008-09 season, but avoided a bottom two finish.
